Connections The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games
This story is set in the future. North America is divided into 13 districts with the capitol being in charge. The capitol is cruel and heartless. Each year, the capitol forces one boy and one girl from each district -- between the ages 12 and 18 -- to go to ‘the hunger games.’
The chosen kids are sent off to survive in landscapes that range from deserts to snowy mountains.  These landscapes are referred to as ‘the arena.’ Players need to survive in this treacherous place and kill their opponents. The last survivor wins fame, fortune and most importantly, food for their district.

The main character in this story is Katnis, a sixteen year old girl living in Panem district 12 to be exact or as known in the past North America.
It is one of the best books I have ever read. It is filled with suspense, emotion and rising action. In one part of the story, the main character grows very close to a character named Rue. When someone dies during these games a cannon shoots so that the players know who is out of the game.  While reading the book, the simplest phrase such as “Rues cannon fired” stirs strong emotion in the reader (I wanted to cry). Normally you would just be like ‘so what?’ You really need to get into the story to understand how emotional that sentence is. You know that the main character has just experienced a very deep loss when you read this sentence.

I don’t think I would survive the hunger games for long. I can’t hunt, hide or run. I would starve and even if I had the chance to kill one of my opponents I would not have the guts. I really hope this will not happen in the future because it would be very bad. One decent meal would cost more than a refrigerator. Many people think the future will be better but you never know if you will end up in something like ‘The Hunger Games.

This is one of those books that once you have finally finished every book you want to make up your own book with the same characters and plot. Maybe I will do that maybe I will be the next Suzanne Collins.
