My Connections

The book I am currently reading is called
Report to the Principal's Office by Jerry Spinelli.

I like that in this book the principal is actually very jolly and happy. When a kid is sent to the principal’s office they have lunch with the principal instead of being shouted at -- which is what any other principal would do.

I relate to Salem {one of the main characters} the most because she is a writer just like me. Also because she talks a lot and is not that shy. I think she is a ‘different’ character that I have never seen before in another book. She reminds me of myself last year when I was in sixth grade.

I would recommend this book to a friend because it is a comedy book that will make you laugh. Up to where I have read I would give it an 8/10.
Mostly because I am a fan of books with humor. It also has some gross humor.  Like when Sunny Wyler flicks a booger at Eddie. These are some things that would gross you out if they happened to you but would probably make you laugh if you saw them happen to someone else (or maybe not).

My favorite quote in the book is probably when Salem says to an eighth grader: " I wouldn’t give you a carbuncle off my nose, if I had a carbuncle." I don't know what a carbuncle is and neither does anyone I know...but I think the word is funny.

Perspectives

Year of the Dog by Grace Lin

The year of the dog is in first person. You can see that because the main character Pacy is sharing her and only her feelings. She is the narrorator. You can also tell the book is in  first person with lines like 'I through myself on the bed.' As you can see she used I and myself. But because in the book there are plenty of characters there is a part where Pacy's mom is telling the story which is confusing. There is also a lot of dialogue which can confuse you as well. Pacy shows most of her feelings when she is at school, at a red egg party and at a Taiwanese camp. She feels anger, embaresment, fear and joy in most of the story. I enjoy this book because it is in her perspective it gives more emotion and feeling to the story.

Georges Marvelous Medicine
by Roald Dahl

This book reminds me of a french movie I saw called "Le Petite Nicholas", which in English means "Little Nicholas" (actually I read the Greek version of Le Petite Nicholas too). In the French story, the boy Nicholas is making a "potion" just like George. They both are very adventurous and imaginative. At one point the movie makes a quote just like my book says which is " I should add some of this and some of that and oh of course some of those wormy things."

This book makes me laugh because I feel the same way as George when he is stuck at his grandma’s house all alone with her and her greedy ways. Although my grandma isn’t as bad as George’s, she is pretty close. She is selfish and tortures George in strange and unusual ways. Especially when the author quotes " She would always pinch and squeeze my cheeks so hard that I would have red marks on my delicate cheeks in the morning." An example could be like when my little sister, Paulina, had a bloody nose when we were at her house. She was not worrying about my sister. She was worrying about her precious carpet!

George’s Marvelous Medicine is written in the first person.  This means that George is telling the story.  This is a good thing for me because he shares all of his thoughts . . . even the ones that he wouldn’t say out loud to anyone.

I would recommend this story to a friend mostly because it has lots of dark humor in it. Yet there is this innocence in the description of a George that makes you feel like you could forgive him even if he trashed the whole world. It is also very fictional so if you like fantasy then this is a great book for you.

My new new book.

Before I was reading this book I was reading a different book I do not remember the name but I think it was attack of the weinners and other spooky stories. I did not like it it was dry and boring. Anyway my new book is GEORGES MARVELOUS MEDICINE!
As you all can see I love reading Roald Dahl books. I am currently enjoying the book very much and I highly recomend it to all ages of readers.

Charlie and The Chocolate Factory

Currently the conflict of winning the golden ticket has been resolved for Charlie. Many people try to bribe him so that they get the ticket.  In this way, attempts are made to create yet another conflict in the story. When you read this part, you cannot help but feel tension and anxiety about Charlie possibly giving up his Golden Ticket.  Charlie, however, doesn’t fall for it.  He is excited about winning the ticket and for him, it is a dream come true.  Nothing is worth giving up the Golden Ticket in Charlie’s eyes.

In this part, we also meet Willie Wonka and his bubbly and crazy personality. It is funny because he makes a small deal about something big like when someone falls in the choco-lake he sais"My dear lady he will become a lovely chocolate please do not worry!". He is an eccentric character who dresses oddly but elegantly.  His dress includes a silky purple tail suit, a long top hat and a cane.  There is something very secretive about Willie Wonka  (people are seen going in but never coming out of his factory).  I suppose this gives a bit of a scary twist to the story.  Will Charlie Bucket ever come out?
Charlie is speechless when he visits the Chocolate Room.  His eyes seem to twinkle holding granpa Joe’s hand tightly.Rhold Dahl makes a nice quote "don"t you let go of my hand Charlie" (said grandpa Joe)  Which shows grandpa does not trust the crazy factory. Soon his cold face turns warm as he is exposed to plenty of luxurious food that he is not used to getting.  Remember, Charlie only got one chocolate bar each year and that was on his birthday.  So one could only imagine how he felt as he entered this magical room full of a never ending supply of chocolate!

yummy!!!

As I said the book I am reading is Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I think the story has a great deal of detail and emotion. For example during the scene where little Charlie Bucket (the star of the book)passes by Willy Wonkas chocolate factory I felt like I could almost smell the deep and rich smell of chocolate in the air.  It makes me drool and dream of one day going in there just like Charlie!

The descriptions of chocolate and sweets always make you hungry so I think it is a good idea to keep a box of chocolates in handy when you are reading this book...especially if you are a chocolate lover like me. I like to keep my chocolate way back in the refrigerator where my dad can not get to them (he is also a chocolate addict). I usually hide them behind something unpleasant like a medicine bottle or a jar of curry.

When I read this book I see the story through the eyes of  a child that is spying or following charlie and learning all of his thoughts, dreams and family. It's a bit like I am hiding behind a tree or a house, just peeking around and poking my nose in Charlies business for no reason at all!I cannot wait to finish this book. It is one of those books that probably keeps you up all night reading under the covers with a flashlight! I hope to inhale the book just like I inhale my chocolate!
LONG LIVE SWEET CHOCOLATE!
